Traveling Abroad

It can be seen from the chart that there have been sharp increases in the number of people traveling abroad in City X in the past decade. As the chart shows, the year 1995 witnessed only about 10,000 people from this city touring abroad. In 2000, the number soared to nearly 40,000. Last year, more than 120,000 people in the city chose to spend their vacations outside China.

A number of factors account for the change in the chart, but the following are the most critical ones. First, thanks to the policy of reform and opening-up, the nation’s economy has been developing at a considerably high speed in the past decades. Therefore, the people have more extra money for traveling. Secondly, other relevant state policies and the boom of touring industry provide citizens with more opportunities to go out and see the world. Last but not least, people have attached greater importance to the quality of life, thus they spend more money and time traveling and sight-seeing.

In a word, this chart is a perfect indicator of China’s fast expanding economy and people’s rising standard of life. The trend of traveling abroad will further stimulate the development of our economy and broaden people’s horizons.

A Package Tour or a Self-guided Tour?

Whenever people go traveling, they will face a difficult problem of choosing between going on a package tour and going on a self-guided tour. People preferring to go on a package tour hold the opinion that you don't have to worry about the schedule, transportation and accommodation, which makes it possible for the tourists to fully keep their minds on enjoying the beautiful scenery and becoming familiar with the local customs. And what's more, it is much safer and money-saving than self-guided tour. On the contrary, people who are in favor of a self guided tour argue that they will feel quite free in arranging the schedule of the tour and may stay in their fancy place (destination) as long as they like to enjoy the beautiful scenery, to go shopping, or to enjoy snacks of different tastes, completely without considering the limitation of time. In addition, self-guided tour may test and improve people's, especially the youngsters' determination, perseverance, confidence and abilities to deal with difficulties.

Therefore, it all depends on what kind of tour one may choose. If I have enough time and money, I will choose self-guided tour for freedom and flexibility; however, if time is limited and I want to save energy, perhaps I will consider package tour.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the following picture entitled The Uncivilized Behaviors. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

From this picture, showing a man spitting on the street, we cannot fail to notice that many uncivilized behaviors exist in our daily lives, such as talking loudly and littering in public places.

Uncivilized behaviors by a host of Chinese both at home and abroad have seriously affected China’s image and all these behaviors should be avoided by all of us, especially when we are abroad. As an ancient country, China keeps courtesies in many fields; hence, we should never make them shame.

Meanwhile, as Chinese, we should not get offended when others point out our weaknesses but should focus more attention on improving ourselves. When we go abroad, we will stand for the whole country, and our inappropriate behaviors will lose the image of our country. To some extent, our government should also promote the good actions to citizens and as college students of the new age, we should play an important role for it.

Tourism is becoming an increasingly important industry in China. Our government has taken effective measures to improve this new industry over the past few years. For example, it hasexplored many appealing scenic and historic spots. Tourists from all over the world come inflock to China every year.

But people differ as to the advantages and disadvantages of the tourist industry. Those who arein favour of tourism argue that our country can benefit a lot from it. For one thing, it is a largesource of foreign exchange and an important part of national planning as well. The main reason why some people oppose tourism is that the masses cannot benefit from itbecause the pressure of too many tourists means the higher prices of goods.

In spite of this, I think its gains outweigh its losses. It also means more employment and moreincome for the country. For this reason the tourist industry should be developed vigorously soas to meet the needs of our socialist economy.

From the table, we can see that in the past 10 years, the number of people in a given city who have gone traveling abroad has increased considerably. Especially in the recent 5 years, the figure has been more than tripled, surging from 40,000 to 120,000.

There are several reasons for the change. Firstly, with the development of economy, more and more people become better off. And their ability to finance their trip abroad is growing. Secondly, tourism has greatly developed over the decade. Travel agencies offer not only domestic packages but also travel specials abroad. In addition, individuals today are expected and encouraged to go outside to widen their horizon and to face the real world of globalization. In this way they hope to keep themselves informed of what is going on around the world.

From the changes reflected in the table, we can predict that the number of individuals going out of the country will boost. This encouragingly and inevitably facilitates the cultural exchange between ours and the rest of the world and this trend will be irreversible.

While the emphasis on teaching to higher, test-driven standards as set in No Child Left Behind resulted in significantly better performance in elementary(and some middle)schools, high schools for a variety of reasons seemed to have made little progress. Size isn’t everything, but it does matter, and the past decade has seen a noticeable countertrend toward smaller schools. This has been due ,in part ,to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has invested $1.8 billion in American high schools, helping to open about 1,000 small schools-most of them with about 400 kids each with an average enrollment of only 150 per grade, About 500 more are on the drawing board. Districts all over the country are taking notice, along with mayors in cities like New York, Chicago and San Diego. The movement includes independent public charter schools, such as No.1 BASIS in Tucson, with only 120 high-schoolers and 18 graduates this year. It embraces district-sanctioned magnet schools, such as the Talented and Gifted School, with 198 students, and the Science and Engineering Magnet,with383,which share a building in Dallas, as well as the City Honors School in Buffalo, N.Y., which grew out of volunteer evening seminars for students. And it includes alternative schools with students selected by lottery(抽签),such as H-B Woodlawn in Arlington, Va. And most noticeable of all, there is the phenomenon of large urban and suburban high schools that have split up into smaller units of a few hundred, generally housed in the same grounds that once boasted thousands of students all marching to the same band. Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, Calif, is one of those, ranking No.423among the top 2% in the countryon Newsweek’s annual ranking of America’s top high schools. The success of small schools is apparent in the listings. Ten years ago, when the first Newsweek list based on college-level test participation was published, only three of the top 100 schools had graduating Classes smaller than 100 students. This year there are 22. Nearly 250 schools on the full ,Newsweek list of the top 5% of schools nationally had fewer than 200 graduates in 2007. Although many of Hillsdale’s students came from wealthy households, by the late 1990 average test scores were sliding and it had earned the unaffectionate nickname (绰号) Hillsjail. Jeff Gilbert. A Hillsdale teacher who became principal last year, remembers sitting with other teachers watching students file out of a graduation ceremony and asking one another in astonishment, How did that student graduate? So in 2003 Hillsdale remade itself into three houses, romantically named Florence, Marrakech and Kyoto. Each of the 300 arriving ninth graders are randomly(随机地) assigned to one of the houses. Where they will keep the same four core subject teachers for two years, before moving on to another for 11th and 12 grades. The th closeness this system cultivates is reinforced by the institution of advisory classes Teachers meet with students in groups of 25, five mornings a week, for open-ended discussions of everything from homework problems to bad Saturday-night dates. The advisers also meet with students privately and stay in touch with parents, so they are deeply invested in the students’ success. We’re constantly talking about one another’s advisers, says English teacher Chris Crockett. If you hear that yours isn’t doing well in math, or see them sitting outside the dean’s office, it’s like a personal failure. Along with the new structure came a more demanding academic program, the percentage of freshmen taking biology jumped from 17 to 95.It was rough for some. But by senior year, two-thirds have moved up to physics, says Gilbert Our kids are coming to school in part because they know there are adults here who know them and care for them. But not all schools show advances after downsizing, and it remains to be seen whether smaller schools will be a cure-all solution. The Newsweek list of top U.S. high schools was made this year, as in years past, according to a single metric, the proportion of students taking college-level exams. Over the years this system has come in for its share of criticism for its simplicity. But that is also its strength: it’s easy for readers to understand, and to do the arithmetic for their own schools if they’d like. Ranking schools is always controversial, and this year a group of 38 superintendents(地区教育主管)from five states wrote to ask that their schools be excluded from the calculation. It is impossible to know which high schools are ‘the best’ in the nation, their letter read. in part. Determining whether different schools do or don’t offer a high quality of education requires a look at man different measures, including students’ overall academic accomplishments and their subsequent performance in college. And taking into consideration the unique needs of their communities. In the end, the superintendents agreed to provide the data we sought, which is, after all, public information. There is no denying thatpeople take extensive reading as a priority in learning. While this doesn'tnecessarily mean learning is restricted to reading, practice is alsocontributing to one's upbringing. On the one side, the importance of readingcan never be overemphasized. Great books offer us creative ideas, optimistic perspectivetowards the life and the world, psychological health and cultivate interest. For example, Chairman Mao, who is presumably the greatest militarist of moderntimes and led Chinese people finally overturned imperialism, feudalism, bureaucracy,is a passionate reader throughout his life. Similarly, Premier Zhou, whoseinspiring stories concerning reading books are widely spread, had gain greatrespect as a diplomat with wisdom and humor, which can be partly attributed tohis accumulation of knowledge that is extracted from books. By the contrary, thosewho fail to gain access to books, wasting time on virtual worlds, is likely tolower expectation for themselves and do harm to society. As the saying goes, Promotingreading among people is pertinent to the health and creativity of a democraticsociety. On the other side, we should get a clear perspectiveof the importance of the role of action that plays in learning. It is apparentthat what we take for granted nowadays is actually concluded from thousands ofexperiments. Consequently, going outside and taking part in activities, insteadof reading inside all day long, can teach us something we cannot figure out inbooks. To illustrate, frequent exposure to natural largely shorten the physicaldistance between us and natural, which is of great beneficial to our process oflearning. Furthermore, participating in various kinds of activities, which promotecommunication and interaction, can improve interpersonal relationship. In summary, reading and doing are both theindispensable parts of learning. Since they are considered two sides of thecoin, it would seem ridiculous to separate them apart. 百万同题英文写作范文2018:AI Recently, the five-game match betweenGoogle's AlphaGo and Lee Sedol, the World Go Champion, ended in overwhelmingvictory with 4 to 1, which has provoked considerable controversies about theeffects that AI impacts in our daily life. Some people welcome the progress andanticipate AI to bring benefit to mankind in more fields while some otherpeople insist that AI will ultimately get out of control. And as far as I'mconcerned, I adhere to that AI plays a more of importance role in the future. First, it is evident that nowadays AIhas been widely applied in our daily life, which provides us with significantproductivity boost both in work and study and great convenience. For example, the extensive acceptance of robots in the manufacturing industry, serviceindustry as well as agricultural industry has greatly liberated us from worklike washing dishes, watering the flowers and assisting students in revisingcompositions and enabled us to save time for more crucial things. In addition, there is no denying that they demonstrate more excellent performance whencompared with human beings. Second, with the rapid development ofsociety and economic integration, the attractions, retentions and developmentsof talents are becoming major challenges for companies, which subsequently pushthe labor cost to be high and the advent of AI provides a favorable choice forthem, which is the employment of robots. Not only can that measure effectivelyimprove the working efficiency but also they are conducive to saving a largeamount of money for enterprises concerning the perspective of long-termdevelopment. Furthermore, they contribute to the modernization of companiestremendously. Third, it is predictable that AI islikely to intensify the fierce competition for jobs further when taking thefact into consideration that in the future, AI will displace human beings forvery heavy work with comparatively low cost. However, it is also widelyacknowledged that the extremely awful conditions will unleash people'spotential and it is feasible for them to turn pressure into motivation andchallenge into possibility. Therefore, I persevere in that when confronted withthe pressure from AI, we people possess the indomitable and unyielding will andconfidence to contend with them, which would inspire us to pay attention to theinnovative thinking and devote to be a well-developed person instead of wastingtime and attending on the repetitive work like robots. Last but not least, it is indispensablefor us to be conscious of the fact that the research and development of robotwill possibly bring some hazards in the future. However, this is not thejustification to obstruct us advancing. What's more, the application of AI isindeed beneficial to us. After all, we will not be us and accomplish thedistinguished achievements today if we think of every potential danger and thengive up before we set out to do something. 百万同题英文写作题目2018:My Life in the Future Are We More Connected or More Alone Today we are more connected than ever before.

大学英语六级写作范文

Tourism is becoming an increasingly important industry in China. Our government has taken effective measures to improve this new industry over the past few years. For example, it hasexplored many appealing scenic and historic spots. Tourists from all over the world come inflock to China every year.

But people differ as to the advantages and disadvantages of the tourist industry. Those who arein favour of tourism argue that our country can benefit a lot from it. For one thing, it is a largesource of foreign exchange and an important part of national planning as well. For another, we may well say that tourism can help to promote the understanding and friendship amongthe peoples of different countries.
