助学班又称“试点班”、“封闭班”，是高等教育自学考试的一种特有形式， 普通高校举办助学班，是普通高校采取多形式、多途径满足社会持续增长的高等教育需求办学的有效方式，用规范的管理、高质量的教育带动和引导社会助学活动，全日制脱产学习，高中起点本科，学制四年。
学校根据专业考试计划全程教学方案培养学生，全部课程考试合格及思想品德鉴定合格，由高校和省教育考试院共同颁发本科毕业文凭，国家承认学历，国际认可。符合学位授予条件的，由高校授予学士学位，可以直接报考研究生。
专科助学班或本科助学班，简称“助学班”，即：利用主考高校的师资力量、教学环境、办学条件、全日制规范化管理的办学形式。
利，可以享受本科学校的教学教育资源，可以考研，考公，考教师资格证等等。弊，属于自考本科学历，拿证会有一点难度，还有一些政策享受不到，大到国家福利待遇，小到学生证等等，都有一定的区别。
优点：时间充裕，专心学习。缺点：价格，大学一般是没有自考全日制学习的，不过是一些机构赚钱的手段。
